A break statement terminates execution of the smallest enclosing switch or iteration statement. break will not break out of an if clause, but the nearest loop or switch clause. Also, an if clause is not called a "loop" because it never repeats its contents. The break statement has no use in decison making statements.
A compiler takes the program code (source code) and converts the source code to a machine language module (called an object file). Another specialized program, called a linker, combines this object file with other previously compiled object files (in particular run-time modules) to create an executable file.
